Possibly the most important aspect of our investment philosophy at HFI is the importance of preserving capital during market down-turns by withdrawing from the markets or moving to better performing sectors.  This is in contrast to most investment advisors who typically recommend a buy/hold strategy or a fixed asset allocation mix over the long term, often leaving their clients subject to considerable draw-downs during major market corrections. On average, stock markets over the past 110 years have fallen in excess of 20% once every 3.8 years, and during that time stock averages have fallen as much as 80%.
